How to Use

How to Split a PDF

Split a PDF in five simple steps. No software to install and no account to create.

  1. 1

    Step 1: Upload Your PDF

Drag and drop a PDF, tap Browse Files, or choose one from your phone. Files up to 100 MB work, and you see the page count straight away.

  2. 2

Step 2: Choose a Split Mode

Extract selected pages, split by ranges, split every N pages, or turn every page into its own PDF.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Pick Your Pages

Tap thumbnails, use All, Odd, or Even, type pages such as 1,3,5-8, or set your ranges. A live summary shows how many files you will get.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Split

Press Split. Pages are copied into new PDFs on your device, with their original quality, size, and orientation.

  5. 5

    Step 5: Download

Download one PDF, or several PDFs together as a ZIP. Files are named after the original, for example report_pages_1-3.pdf.

What is kept in the new PDFs

Each page is copied exactly as it is: text, fonts, images, vector graphics, page size, and rotation. Links and comments on a page usually come along with it. Bookmarks and links that jump to pages left out of a file are not kept, because those pages are no longer there.

Why your PDF stays private

Many online PDF tools upload your document to a server. Here, the PDF is opened and split by your own browser with the open-source libraries pdf.js and pdf-lib, so contracts, bank statements, and other private documents never leave your device.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about splitting PDF files with ToolCube.

How do I split a PDF into separate files?

Add your PDF, choose Split by ranges, and set the first and last page of each part, for example 1-3 and 4-10. Each range becomes its own PDF. You can also split every N pages or turn every page into a separate PDF. Press Split, then download the files as a ZIP.

How do I extract only some pages from a PDF?

Choose Extract pages, then tap the pages you want in the thumbnail grid or type them, for example 1,3,5-8. You get one new PDF with just those pages, in page order. Turn on 'Save each selected page as a separate PDF' to get one file per page instead.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Your PDF is opened and split entirely in your web browser, on your own device. It is never uploaded to our servers or sent to anyone else, which makes the tool safe for private documents.

Does splitting reduce the quality of my PDF?

No. Pages are copied into the new files exactly as they are, without being turned into images. Text stays sharp and selectable, and images, page size, and orientation are unchanged.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Yes, if you know its password. When you add a protected PDF, you are asked for the password; it is checked in your browser only. The new PDFs are saved without the password. If the file uses protection that the browser cannot open, you will see a message explaining this.

Is there a limit on file size or number of pages?

You can open PDFs up to 100 MB. There is no fixed page limit: PDFs with hundreds of pages work, and the thumbnails load as you scroll. Very large files may take longer on older phones.

What will the split files be called?

Each file is named after your original PDF and the pages it contains, for example report_pages_1-3.pdf or report_page_5.pdf. When you create several files, they are downloaded together in one ZIP file.

Is Split PDF free?

Yes. ToolCube Split PDF is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many PDFs you split.
